About UsWhy do we do it? |
|||
In our work we see the relentless destruction of life in many remote tribes, mainly caused by the greed of powerful Western nations. Starving San children have no place to call home. They are pushed around by multi-national corporations who seek to obtain the diamonds in the Kalahari. Dying pygmies in the Congo are subdued to unimaginable tortures by the rebels due to the conflict fuelled by the exploitation of natural resources. Child soldiers in Somalia and Sierra Leone fight for things they don’t understand. Inuit youth have LCD TVs and access to the latest Hollywood movies in an environment where this only increases the suicide toll. Remote tribes deep in the beautiful islands of the Pacific can not own their country because tourism magnates from Australia, New Zealand and Europe hold them slaves to the industry. Child prostitution in Thailand is encouraged by decadent western tourists. Pilgrim Relief society was founded to support and sustain remote tribes as they often are the most disadvantaged. Many of these tribes are facing extermination. This organization does not hold funds for the purpose of its own security. Many of those who work within our organization are volunteers. All funds received by way of donations go directly to the field. The water systems are installed by volunteers who are happy to receive food and accommodation in exchange of their time and dedication. We purchase aid and resources from local businesses in the countries where we work in order to continue supporting small business in the area. As a result of globalisation and free trade, many of these local businesses are being swallowed up by multi-national corporations. If by any chance you happen to meet a Pilgrim Relief Society worker or volunteer somewhere around the world distributing aid, you will see that our volunteers are involved with their whole heart and mind in the mission of helping the oppressed and disadvantaged. If you would like to contribute to supporting remote tribes, there are several ways in which you can help. Go to our Help page to find out more.
